In order to understand some of the basic concepts of television and CCTV, one has to understand what light is, and how does human eye work. In this lecture we start from the nature of light, and then explain the visible spectrum as seen by human eye, as well as how this relates to imaging sensors. We then explain the human eye resolving power, which defines the optimum viewing distances in designing control rooms, and last, but not least we cover the human eye 'defect' called persistence, which is the basis for understanding motion pictures in cinematography and television.
